Why send your supervisees to training?
It’s the Supervisors role to run the sessions isn’t it?
Actually, research shows that to get the most from supervision you need mutually engaged and driven participants.
As a supervisee there is a role to be played in how to prepare and drive that supervision. It is an opportunity for supervisees to use the time strategically to drive their professional and career development. Being clearer on their learning goals from the outset would make the precious time you have in supervision more productive.
Supervisees aren’t always clear about what is expected of them or understand how to drive supervision or articulate their learning goals. They also don’t always understand what to expect from their supervisors and how to ask for what is needed in supervision.
Participating in supervision is a great opportunity to build clinical and professional wisdom and skills, to build confidence, professional identity and to maximise professional learning and development. Being able to lead their own supervision will help both Supervisors and supervisees find the experience rewarding.
